Pastor Scott's Open Letter to Schoodic Circuit Churches

August 15, 2008

Dear Congregations,

I would like to express my deep gratitude for the many words of encouragement you have extended since it was announced that I was to become your pastor. I do not know how any two churches could be more supportive. I really enjoyed last Sunday's picnic. It was a great time of fellowship with both congregations there together. I hope we have many more such experiences together. Thank you for the many kind gifts.

I am seeking your input, as to any enhancements of our worship services, you would like to see. Perhaps you have a favorite hymn, or perhaps you would like time for prayer at the altar, or more time for silent prayer. Maybe there is something some of you have always wished we would do, but have never done. Perhaps you may want to see more participation in the service by members of the congregation. I want the services to be as meaningful and fulfilling to all of the members of our churches as possible. Many of you have attended worship elsewhere and may have an idea or a song that will enhance the worship experience for others in the congregation. Please feel free to talk to me anytime about what would make the service more meaningful to you.

One of my goals for the rest of this year is to enhance the ties between all of our members and friends. To accomplish this I am going to start a newsletter with the first issue going out in early September. Therefore I am going to need news! If you have any church related news please let me know. Especially, if you have plans for an activity. Also I will need information for a calendar. As I believe prayer is central to the church, I am asking for everyone to share our joys and concerns. One of my main goals for the newsletter is to maintain the connection between the church and our summer residents when they are away from us. I hope that this newsletter will help us keep up with all the good news in your lives and allow us to lift you up in prayer when you need it.

To help make sure that the newsletter goes to the right place please make sure that we have your correct address. If you would prefer the newsletter by e-mail please make sure I have that also. I will be working on a new directory soon. I am requesting that everyone please give me your correct address, phone number, and e-mail address. If you are a summer resident, please make sure that we have both sets. Please write it on a piece of paper for me, or send it by e-mail schoodicpastor@mail4me.com. If you are certain that the current directory is correct then simply give me a note that says it is correct.

Finally a big thank you to the crew who came and helped clean and straighten the office at Prospect Harbor. What a difference! For the time being office hours will be Monday 4-8 at Prospect Harbor, Wednesday 9-1 at Gouldsboro, and Thursday 9-12 at Prospect Harbor. These hours may be refined as time goes on but I will let you know of any changes before hand if at all possible. Members of either church are invited to meet me at either of the churches during these times. If you need to meet me at a different time let me know and we can meet me in my office or I can visit you at your home. Friday will be my Sabbath day and generally I will not work on that day.

However if there is an emergency do not hesitate to call me, irregardless of what time or day it is. If you are at the hospital at 4 AM and need support from you pastor, call me.

Again thank you for the chance to serve you as your pastor. I look forward to working with all of you to accomplish the Lord's mission for our churches.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Scott
